Further progress

With all the distractions going on with other projects (factory refurbishment, house refurbishment, business, FIA MGB, Shelby Cobra…) the TR6 moves forward slowly, but it does move forward.  The main wait is now getting the shell re-painted which is scheduled for late January.  We had a team visit from Aston Martin Works – one of the visitors was in their QC department and when he pointed out all the flaws in the paint I realised there was a fair amount to do.

Anyway, this is really just a small update to keep the blog up to date, i hope you enjoy the pictures.  please feel free to ask questions or make comments!

So the chassis finally gets a further coat of epoxy-mastic paint, brushed and then gloss rollered, to make sure it is as protected as I can make it.  The nest stage (after it is rolling) will be to protect the inside with some type of wax (yet to be decided)

Components start to get added, starting at the front

Prepping the diff ready for installation.  All we have done with this is to remove the bearings and seals and replace them with Timken new ones, rubber seals and fingers crossed this will be all that is required.  With the overdrive Stag gearbox I am hoping that the US diff ratio will still be acceptable, but we will have to drive it to tell.  With the state of our roads, it most probably will be!

just a bit of tidying up as we had some visitors.  The workshop is taking shape at last as well.

So the chassis is finally on its wheels, diff installed, new CV type driveshafts installed, brakes all plumbed in, steering rack and all front suspension done, it feels like we are getting there!  The next step will be to get the engine and gearbox together and in the chassis to see how we are going to mount the gearbox with its overdrive unit as this car didn’t have one originally.

Once the engine is installed we can then start on the injection system, exhaust, cooling, oil cooler and the next stage of accessories.  and wait for the body to be painted!
